Washington, D.C. — The National Hot Dog & Sausage Council (NHDSC) has selected the finalists in its first-ever photo competition. These 15 finalists — five each from three categories (people, places and hot dog art) were chosen by the Council from more than 100 entries.

To view the finalists and to vote for your favorite, go to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council Facebook Fanpage (http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/National-Hot-Dog-and-Sausage-Council/70099640538) and become a fan or visit http://www.hot-dog.org/. Grand prize and runners-up in each category will be determined by which photos receive the most votes before 10 a.m. on June 29, 2011. Each grand prize winner will receive a $250 gift card to the grocery store of their choosing to assist them in purchasing all of the food fixings for the ultimate summer barbecue. Each runner-up will receive a $100 gift card to the grocery store of their choosing.

“All of the entries were frankly wonderful and narrowing the entries five finalists in each category wasn’t easy,” said Council President and ‘Queen of Wien’ Janet Riley.

The Council received entries from Germany, Iceland, Canada and all across America. Hot dogs fans young and old got into the action, submitting photos from picnics, ballparks backyards and restaurants far and wide. A photo montage of all of the usable entries will be made available on the Council’s Youtube site (www.youtube.com/hotdogcouncil) on July 1, when overall winners are also revealed.

“The response to this contest is just another testament to the unwavering popularity of this national icon,” Riley said. “As we prepare to celebrate National Hot Dog Month in July, it is the perfect time to give the dog the ‘close-up’ it deserves. We thank everyone who submitted photos.”
