Of the variety of ingredients in the food supply, few spark more rumor and speculation than the ingredients in a hot dog. But contrary to common beliefs that hot dogs include “everything but the oink,” today’s wieners are made from exactly what is listed in the ingredients statement on the package. Ingredients combined with meat and poultry in a hot dog recipe can add flavor, keep hot dogs moist and juicy, delay spoilage, and perhaps most importantly, enhance food safety.

WASHINGTON, D.C., Jan. 18, 2005- New York City eats the most hot dogs according to the "Top Ten Hot Dog Eating Cities" of the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (NHDSC). In 2004, New Yorkers consumed $112.7 million worth of frankfurters and "better for you" hot dogs using statistics prepared by Information Resources Inc.

Hot Dog/Sandwich Debate to Continue at 2016 Chicago Hot Dog Fest This Weekend

Washington, D.C. August 1, 2016--At a time when American political ideologies are almost evenly split around two Presidential candidates, new polling shows Americans are far less divided about the question, “Is a hot dog a sandwich?”  Newly released poll results show that 57 percent of Americans say hot dog on a bun is NOT a sandwich compared to 33 percent who believe it IS.  Meanwhile, 10 percent remain undecided.

Memorial Day Weekend Kicks Off Summer of Seven Billion Hot Dogs

Washington, D.C. May 26, 2016—There are many ways to cook a hot dog, but new research commissioned by the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (NHDSC) suggests that Americans prefer their dogs straight off the grill. Of the 90 percent of Americans who say they prepare hot dogs, 63 percent say grilling is their favorite way to cook a hot dog, far outpacing other cooking methods such as steaming (12 percent), microwaving (9 percent) or frying in a pan (8 percent).
