Washington, D.C. — The economy may still be lukewarm, but America’s love affair with hot dogs is red hot, especially in our nation’s ballparks, according to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council’s annual survey.
The NHDSC predicts that ballparks around the country will serve 21,378,064 hot dogs this season, enough to round the bases 29,691 times. Washington, D.C. — The National Hot Dog & Sausage Council today applauded Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez for his donation of 1,000 hot dogs and hamburgers, along with buns and rolls, to the Community Soup Kitchen in Morristown, N.J. but expressed regret that he had to apologize for acting on an all-American impulse: eating a hot dog at a ball game.

Washington, DC, May 6, 2009 – The National Hot Dog & Sausage Council (NHDSC) today announced a new song contest to create an updated version of the century-old song “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” that includes a reference to hot dogs.
“Take Me Out to the Ball Game,” which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2008, includes a glaring omission. While hot dogs are the number one food served in major league ball parks, the song only references peanuts and Cracker Jack™.
