Washington, D.C., September 10, 2007 – Juggling schoolwork and meal preparation can be challenging, especially when children are picky eaters. Experts say, however, that children’s favorite foods can be ‘anchors’ to encourage children to eat the variety of foods that are so important for their growing bodies.

The National Hot Dog Council has taken on this challenge, developing a new collection of back-to-school recipes centered on two of kid’s favorite foods—sausages and hot dogs. These recipes can be served alone or prepared with other sidedishes to offer children meals they will love —and request — time and time again.

The Council’s new electronic booklet featuring six delicious recipes is available online at www.hot-dog.org.These recipes offer quick and easy new twists on the old favorites and include:

Smoked Sausage Fajitas: A flour tortilla rolled with sausage, peppers, salsa, crisplettuce and cheeses.

Sausage and Veggie Quesadillas: Crumbled sausage, green onions, roasted red peppers and a garden vegetable cream spread, wrapped in whole wheat or multi-grain tortillas.

Sausage and Whole Wheat Pasta Frittata: An Italian omelet featuring bratwurst sausage, whole wheat spaghetti, tomatoes and cheeses.

Italian Sausage Pizza: English muffins topped with fresh tomatoes, pizza sauce, parmesan cheese and spicy sausage.

Grilled Hot Dog and Fruit Kabobs: Hot dog, apple, pear and pineapple skewers served with a mustard dipping sauce.

Smoked Sausage with Sweet and Sour Sauce: A sweet and tangy Asian dish served over hot rice.

“The exciting thing about these recipes is not only are they kid-tested and approved, but also easy to prepare and nutritious,” said Janet Riley, President of the Council. “Kids will love these recipes—and parents will love the fun they will have making them.”

All of these recipes, in additionto a number of othercutting-edge hot dogand sausage recipes, fun facts, photos and more and are available for download from the Council Web site,http://www.hot-dog.org.
