Washington, D.C. — The National Hot Dog & Sausage Council (NHDSC) today announced its first ever photo contest aimed at celebrating one of America’s oldest and most popular icons — the hot dog.
“The hot dog is ready for its close-up and we need America to help us give it the attention it deserves,” said Council President and ‘Queen of Wien’ Janet M. Riley. “All you need is a camera and a love of hot dogs to participate and you might just be rewarded with the ultimate summer barbecue!”
Top prizes will be awarded in three categories:
People – images of friends, family and other folks noshing on their favorite dogs
Places – images of hot dog restaurants old and new and/or photos of hot dogs being served and enjoyed in unique locations
Hot Dog Art – go crazy! Submit images of creative creatures, scenes and anything else inspired by and featuring the hot dog.
Submissions must be received by noon on June 17. To enter, send your jpeg image to contest@hot-dog.org. Please indicate the category you are entering and include your name, address and a daytime phone number. Limit three entries per person.
The Council’s selection panel will then select five finalists in each category. Entries will be judged on creativity and overall image quality. Both color and black and white images are acceptable.
The top photos will be displayed from June 20-27 on the Council’s Facebook fan page (http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/National-Hot-Dog-and-Sausage-Council/70099640538). A grand prize winner in each category will then be determined by the number of “likes” received during this period. So even if you do not choose to submit a photo, be sure to visit the page and vote for your favorite!
Contest winners will be announced to coincide with the beginning of National Hot Dog Month in July.
Each grand prize winner will receive a $250 gift card to the grocery store of their choice to help build the ultimate summer barbecue. Runner-ups in each category will receive a $100 gift card. Winning photos will be featured on the Council’s Facebook fan page, Flickr page (http://www.flickr.com/groups/nationalhotdogcouncil) and on the homepage of the popular National Hot Dog and Sausage Council website (http://www.hot-dog.org/) during the entire month of July.
